Thanks for your interest in our walking club. The Las Vegas High Rollers & Strollers, chartered in 1985, is a member of the American Volkssport Association (AVA). AVA is a member of the International Volkssport Verband (IVV)-- founding international organization which began in Germany in the 1960s. Both the IVV and the AVA are based on the participation of members in non-competitive sport to promote fun, fitness, family, and fellowship.

Volksmarching is a WALKING SPORT and the walkers are called VOLKSMARCHERS. Our walking activity has it's origin in the European activity of Volkssports, which also include bicycling, swimming, and cross-country skiing. In this country, walking is by far the most prevalent type of event, although others, including in-line skating events, are held.

Las Vegas High Rollers & Strollers' events are open to everyone. Our walks are FREE, non competitive, recreational events, which are designed to be FUN for the whole FAMILY. We visit new and interesting places that provide a variety of environments, from easy, flat walks through residential neighborhoods to hilly walks on natural surface trails in parks, cross country, or through the desert. Each participant walks at his or her own pace, which means you can enjoy your surroundings and meet others who have the same interest in improving fitness through walking. The walking routes are usually 10 Km (6.2 miles) and are well marked or described with an accompanying map so you can't get lost.

We often have commemorative awards, (medals, patches, or pins) at events, for those that complete the walk and pay a small fee. This is a great way to celebrate a memorable walk or to entice young people to walk with you. For those who become serious about the sport, the AVA/IVV has a lifetime achievement awards program in which individuals can choose to participate. Once again, for a small fee, you can purchase official books in which to record either the number of events you participate in or the distance in kilometers you walk. As you reach certain milestones, the books are redeemed for an attractive certificate, a shoulder patch, and a hatpin. There are no time limits for completing these books and they are good worldwide at sanctioned IVV events.

Volksmarchers get an extra kick out of each event they complete by having their "Event and Distance" books rubber-stamped. Many volksmarchers make it a hobby to travel all over the USA and Europe collecting these stamps. Many volksmarchers have completed events in all fifty states, or the 51 capitals, entitling them to special awards from AVA.

The best way to learn about our recreational walks is to join our local club based in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are over 500 walking clubs nationwide. If you would like more information about our walking club and how to join, go to our link "CONTACT US" for "Points of Contact".

People of any age, sex, or athletic ability can complete our walks: "EVERYONE IS A WINNER".
